How to Turn Rich Pins On and How to Turn Rich Pins Off

If you’re using Pinterest to drive traffic to your website, you’ve probably heard of Rich Pins. But do you really need them? And what if you want to turn them off?

In this post, I’m breaking down exactly how to enable or disable Rich Pins, including specific steps for WordPress users and food bloggers using WP Recipe Maker (WPRM).

As of August 2025, here’s my honest recommendation: test both options. I’ve always leaned toward keeping Rich Pins turned off, especially when traffic and monetization have been priorities. But Pinterest is increasingly rewarding accounts that publish high-quality, informative content, and Rich Pins can help with that. Every account performs differently, so I suggest testing Rich Pins on or off for at least 6 to 8 weeks to get accurate data before deciding what works best for you.

What Are Rich Pins?

Rich Pins are enhanced Pinterest Pins that pull extra information from your website and display it directly on the Pin. This extra info can include ingredients, product pricing, article authors, and more.

Why Use Rich Pins?

If you’re a blogger, content creator, or online shop owner, Rich Pins can help:

  • Improve your Pinterest SEO and visibility
  • Automatically sync data from your site to your Pins
  • Add more context and authority to your content
  • Encourage higher click-through rates

Again, whether they help or hurt depends on your specific account. Some accounts thrive with them on… others see a drop. Which is why testing is key.

Steps for WPRM Users:

  1. Go to WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Social Sharing Page
  2. Ensure “opt out of rich pins” is NOT turned on

This ensures Pinterest recognizes your content as a Recipe Rich Pin.

How to Disable Rich Pins

If you enabled using one of the steps above, simply do the opposite to turn them off. You’ll also want to clear your site’s cache and give Pinterest at least 72 hours to turn them off.

You can also add this code to the <head> of your website to disable rich pins: <meta name="pinterest-rich-pin" content="false" />
